The Importance of Siding Repair in Melville, NY

Siding repair is a foundational aspect of home maintenance that is undeniably important for homeowners in Melville, NY. At FMF Construction, we recognize the crucial role that siding repair plays in safeguarding the integrity and longevity of your Suffolk County property. Below, we share some of the top reasons why siding repair should be a top priority.

  1. Protection from the Elements: Siding serves as a protective shield for your home, defending it against the relentless forces of nature. Over time, siding can succumb to wear and tear, creating vulnerabilities that allow moisture to seep into your walls. Siding repair becomes indispensable to ensure your home remains protected against the damaging effects of rain, wind, and other environmental elements.
  2. Enhanced Curb Appeal: First impressions matter and when it comes to your home, its curb appeal will influence the way your home is perceived. Damaged or deteriorating siding can tarnish your property’s appearance, diminishing its overall curb appeal. By investing in professional siding repair, you can expect an immediate transformation in your home’s visual allure, preserving its aesthetic charm for years to come.
  3. Energy Efficiency: Siding plays a key role in insulating your Melville, NY home, as it allows you to regulate indoor temperatures more effectively. To ensure your home remains well-insulated, repairing damaged siding is a must. Siding repair not only helps to lower energy bills but also enhances your home’s comfort and generates long-term savings.
  4. Preservation of Property Value: Whether you have immediate plans to sell your home or not, maintaining impeccable siding substantially bolsters its resale value. Prospective buyers are naturally drawn to a property with siding in excellent condition. Should you decide to put your home on the market, repairing your siding could lead to a quicker sale and a higher selling price.
  5. Prevent Costly Replacements: Neglecting siding issues can result in more extensive damage that might necessitate a complete siding replacement. Siding repair is a far more budget-friendly alternative that can extend the lifespan of your existing siding, sparing you the significant financial burden of a complete overhaul.

Have a question?

The area was known to the Native Americans as Sunsquams. In the 17th century it was known as Samuel Ketcham’s Valley, named for a local resident. Afterwards it was known as Sweet Hollow. This name was replaced by Melville in school records in 1854. There is some debate as to the origin of the Melville name. It may be derived from the Latin for honey (the area had an abundance of honey bees, and this may have also been the origin of the previous Sweet Hollow name). The author Herman Melville was being published around this time.

A Presbyterian church was built in Melville in 1829 at the corner of Old Country and Sweet Hollow Roads. In 1977 the church was moved 1 mile (1.6 km) to the west. The church was in continuous use until 1930. It reopened in 1944 for the funeral of Edward Baylis and has been in use since then.

In 1909 a trolley line to Huntington was established. This was an extension of the Huntington Trolley Spur and went as far south as Amityville and had a connection to Babylon. There were six fare zones, one of which was the Duryea Farm at Melville. The line was shut down a decade later after farmers complained that noise from the trolley frightened their animals. Buses provided transportation after the trolley line closed. The growing use of private cars also reduced demand for the trolley line.
